Samburu

The rugged Samburu National Reserve is situated to the west of the Great North Road around 100km north of Mount Kenya.  It was here that Joy Adamson raised Elsa the Lioness, made famous in the best selling book and award winning movie Born Free.

The land here is hot and arid with the only water coming from Ewaso Ngiro river, whose palm-lined path winds through otherwise parched acacia scrub and sparse grasslands. As well as many of the usual suspects, this dry land is home to some less familiar species including Grevy's zebra, gerenuk and reticulated giraffe.
