Into the Wild: Nicky's Zambian Journey

From unforgettable wildlife encounters to exploring Zambia's rivers and remote wilderness, Nicky recently travelled through Zambia to experience the destination first-hand.

We caught up with Nicky after her trip to find out what stood out most, which experiences she would recommend and what travellers should know before planning their own Zambian adventure.

Which camp or lodge really stood out to you, and why?

Sausage Tree and Potato Bush, Lower Zambezi. Fantastic game viewing, beautiful Zambezi River - so many options including canoeing, surprise sandbar lunches, wild dogs, and leopards. The Lower Zam is beautiful and has a unique golden light which is magical.

Who would you recommend a Zambia itinerary to?

Guests who have been on safari before or are looking for something unique and varied. Each National Park has its own special offering. Guiding is excellent throughout Zambia and walking safaris give guests an insight to the flora and fauna as well as tracking.

If you had to describe Zambia in three words, what would they be?

Wild, Beautiful, Unique.

Which experience would you say is uniquely Zambian?

Busanga Plains – Chisa Camp (Nyanja word for birds’ nest). Only open from June – October this vast grassy floodplain is Big Cat country – lion and leopard are thriving here, and currently lion outnumber the number of guests at any one time in the park! Only 5 camps offer exclusive game viewing experiences, electric vehicles, walking safaris and more.

What makes Zambia such a special safari destination?

Unspoiled, low-density wilderness experiences. Walking safaris, excellent guiding and game viewing, variety of National Parks and habitats and last but not least Victoria Falls!
