Our Africa Specialist, Carla, has recently returned from an unforgettable journey through Namibia, experiencing everything from the towering dunes of Sossusvlei to the wildlife-rich plains of Etosha National Park.

We've put Carla in the hot seat to answer five quick questions about her trip, sharing her favourite moments, practical travel tips and what makes Namibia unlike any other African destination.

What surprised you most about Namibia?

I think the desert to be honest, I knew it was vast and beautiful but it honestly takes your breathe away at times, it really touched something in me!

If you had to choose just one unforgettable moment from the trip, what would it be and why?

Oh gosh, only one! That is hard, I think it would have to be quad biking on the dunes in Swakupmond – SO much fun but from a scenic point of view the sun going down over the desert!

What's your top tip for anyone planning a trip to Namibia?

Get to the dunes/Deadvlei as early in the morning as you can! Pack comfy walking shoes and suncream. I can think of many more but you only want one!

Who would you recommend Namibia to? What type of traveller is it perfect for?

I think I would highly recommend people looking for a great road trip, photographers, wildlife lovers who prefer not so crowded safari, for people who love vast open spaces and ever changing landscapes. I would recommend it to families too but making sure they understand that depending on budget there might be long car rides!

What makes Namibia stand out from other African safari destinations?

Namibia is defined by its vast open spaces and allows for so much independent exploration! There are few places on earth where sand dunes meet the cold ocean and where the skies are so dark and clear to view the stars! It is a really special place, so different from most African destinations
