Southern Highlights - Escorted Private Tour

​South of Addis Ababa lies an area of stunning landscapes, ancient and semi-isolated peoples, engraved stone monoliths, wooden totems, National Parks and endemic wildlife. This private tour will take you into this less visited region and showcase a very different and unchanged land, which happily remains largely unvisited.

Day 1

Evening flight from Heathrow.

Day 2

On arrival at Addis Ababa you will be met and transferred to your hotel to rest and refresh before taking a tour of the city and its sites with a trip to the nearby mountains. 

Day 3

Drive south to scenic Arba Minch via a museum housing Paleolithic finds, the World Heritage listed site of Tiya with its engraved stone monoliths, and panoramic landscapes. 

Day 4

In the morning head out to Jinka and the Omo Valley via Konso and Key Afer taking in a local market run by various indigenous tribes, taking in stunning scenery. Overnight stay in the Omo Valley.

Day 5

An early morning departure for Mago National Park where the local tribeswomen insert discs into their earlobes and lips. They are traditional farmers and live isolated lives. Travel on to Turmi for a 2 night stay.

Day 6

Spend the day travelling through this amazing area encountering the local Hamer and Dassenech people living their centuries old traditional lives. Take in a village visit to Omo Rate on the Omo River before heading back to Turmi.

Day 7

An early morning departure to travel on the savannah alongside the Mountains of Men before the road rises into the Karkerte Mountains providing splendid panoramic views and terraced hill farms. Visit the Konso people who sculpt wooden totems to mark their graves. Overnight at Arba Minch.

Day 8

Today a long drive sees you enter the Bale Mountains National Park home to the endangered Ethiopian wolf and a range of other endemic wildlife. The landscape is as varied as it is stunning with forests, meadows and waterfalls. Spend 3 nights in the Bale Mountains.

Days 9-10

Explore the immense Senati Plateau at over 4,000 mtrs (13,000 ft) with unique flora and fauna, many endangered and protected, varied birdlife and deep lakes.

Day 11

Drive back to Addis Ababa through the Great Rift Valley rich with lakes and vegetation. The evening sees a farewell dinner with traditional dancing and entertainment before departing for the airport and your flight back to the UK (full board)

Day 12 Arrive at London Heathrow in the morning.
