Whatever time of the year, or indeed, time of
the day, the Falls are a stunning sight and must be classed as
one of the ‘severn wonders of the world’. At the height of the
flow, usually April, up to 100,000,000 gallons of water descend
and you can only glimpse the Falls every few seconds as the
spray parts. Whilst in October / November at the end of the dry
season, nearly 4,000,000 gallons a minute pour over the edge.

The game reserves in Zimbabwe afford excellent
game viewing and birding. In some reserves, such as Matusadona
National Park, is it possible to go on a walking safari escorted
by fully qualified rangers and trackers.

A highlight of your visit to the Falls will be a sightseeing
trip by helicopter, fixed wing light aircraft or micro light.
David Livingstone described the view of the Falls as “scenes so
lovely must have been gazed upon angels in their flights”. As
there are capacity limitations reservations should be made well
in advance.

Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe has always been one of our favourite countries and with the
current political situation looking more positive we are hopeful
that holidays and safaris will be reintroduced in the near future.
It has a wealth of spectacular scenery, superb game viewing, fine
accommodation and warm, friendly people.
There are daily flights with British Airways and South African
Airways from Johannesburg to Victoria Falls and Harare. Travel
within
the country is by private light aircraft and road transfers.
VICTORIA FALLS
Victoria Falls has to be the number one attraction and is truly
an amazing sight. The Rain Forest area around The Falls has been
left untouched and you can wander along cobbled pathways to
various viewpoints on the edge of the chasm. The greatest flow of
water over The Falls is usually in April and May whilst the least
amount is normally around October and November. There are a number
of excellent hotels offering high standards of comfort and service –
such as, the world famous colonial style Victoria Falls Hotel and
Victoria Falls Safari Lodge set in over 200 acres of African bush 5
minutes from the town centre. Just under an hour away by road,
bordering the Zambezi River, is Matetsi Game Reserve and large herds
of buffalo, zebra and elephant are to be seen together with lion,
cheetah and leopard. The lodge is operated by the renown CC Africa
group
LAKE
KARIBA
The massive man made Lake Kariba is a great place for a relaxing
break and offers game viewing by safari vehicle, boat and canoe.
Located near the spectacular Sanyati Gorge is Sanyati Lodge. This is
a gem of a hideaway and must be rated as one of the most beautifully
appointed lodges in Africa with spacious chalets dotted along a
ridge overlooking the lake.
Downstream
from Kariba is Mana Pools National Park which holds World Heritage
status and is one of the most prolific game areas in Zimbabwe. Canoe
and walking trails operate between May and October. Hwange National
Park is the country’s largest national park both in size and variety
of animals to be seen. There are a few lodges on private concession
land and game levels and movements are being closely monitored.
OTHER ATTRACTIONS
As the country re-establishes its tourist industry, attractions
such as the historic Great Zimbabwe ruins, the fascinating Matopos
National Park to the south of Bulawayo and the outstanding scenery
of the
Eastern Highlands will once again become popular destinations.
