WILD FLOWERS

The Western Cape is blessed with the greatest and most diverse range of plant species in the world. To see the wild flowers at their best visit during August and September when the Spring comes to the Cape, but this does depend on the weather and rainfall.

A 3-day flower tour to the area around Clanwilliam, Biedouw Valley and Springbok can be taken.

MARDOUW COUNTRY HOUSE
This magnificent Cape Georgian house is set between Swellendam and Ashton on a thousand hectares with a backdrop of mountains, hills, olive groves and vineyards. It provides the perfect base for local sightseeing, varied activities and relaxation. Dining is an indulgent affair as the chef unveils culinary delights, of which the olive ice-cream is a speciality. Delightful accommodation is in two spacious ground floor suites and three bedrooms with stunning views from their balcony. Leisure facilities include a swimming pool, 300m golf driving range, fishing in well stocked dams, bird watching and mountain bikes. The hotel makes an ideal base for exploring the Robertson wine routes and is about 2.5 hours drive from Cape Town.



BUSHMANS KLOOF WILDERNESS RESERVE

Approximately 270km north of Cape Town, on the edge of the dramatic yet beautiful Cedarberg Wilderness Area, the homestead has 7 twin rooms and 9 suites. There is a luxurious open-air dining facility and lounge area offering spectacular views over the Boontjies River. In the extensive grounds is a swimming pool, sauna and boma. The lounge, dining room, bar and covered verandah are located in the Manor House’s main building. Activities include guided rock art walks, botanical tours, bird watching, star gazing and game viewing drives in open Land Rovers.



ROGGELAND COUNTRY HOUSE

About 10 minutes drive from the wine town of Paarl and ringed by the purple-blue Drakenstein Mountains, this 18th century farmhouse is a national monument. The simply furnished but comfortable bedrooms (no TV or mini bar!) and public rooms feature the traditional Cape architecture with yellowwood or reed ceilings and deep casement windows. A highlight of your stay will be dinner – a gourmets delight. A pre dinner selection of wines is served under the trees followed by the dinner which is a 4-course, candlelit affair, with carefully selected South African wines with each course. In the gardens is a swimming pool. Rates include wine with dinner.

Nestling in a vineyard close to the centre of Paarl, this 5-star hotel is a member of Relais et Chateaux. The various original outbuildings date back to 1707 and have been lovingly restored to provide 34 excellent bedrooms and suites Rooms vary from those with a private terrace to duplex suites and many have stunning views to the Drakenstein Mountains. In the Manor House is Bosman’s Restaurant, which is recognised as being one of South Africa’s top restaurants. The new bistro is the casual restaurant for more relaxed dining. Within the grounds is a charming small chapel for weddings, two floodlit tennis courts, two swimming pools and a health centre with steam baths and sauna.
