Winelands and Greater Cape Town

The heart of the winelands lies around the historic towns of Paarl,
Franschhoek and Stellenbosch but the wine growing region extends
south to Hermanus and north-west to Tulbagh. This is an area of
truly outstanding natural beauty and there are many small hotels
offering high standards of comfort and food together with the
opportunity of sampling the fine local wines, brandies and liqueurs.
Further inland are some delightful country estates offering various
leisure activities all combined with utter peace and tranquillity.
The landscape is vast but has an incredible beauty all of its own.
There is nothing finer than to
wake in the morning and look out over Africa listening to the sounds
of wildlife. As night falls the sky becomes a canopy of stars much
clearer and brighter than in the UK.
On the less visited Atlantic coast north of Cape Town there are
lagoons, pristine beaches, rich agricultural land and mountains. In
spring the countryside and nature reserves put on the region’s
greatest show when the first spring rains fall and millions and
millions of indigenous flowers open. The area is also a birdwatchers
paradise with various species of sea birds, waders and raptors to be
seen. |
