Rovos Rail - Pride of Africa
These
three trains have been lovingly restored to their former glory with
great attention to detail and are the last word in comfort and
style. Each train has a maximum of 36 suites with the deluxe suites
having shower and toilet whilst the more spacious Royal Suites have
bath and toilet. Each compartment is equipped with a writing desk,
personal safe, bar fridge with beverages of the passengers’ choice
and 24-hour room service. In the bathrooms, original fittings
combine with the modern technology of hot showers, hair dryers and
shaver plugs. A limited number of Pullman Suites have recently been
introduced and these comprise of an en suite compartment with upper
& lower berths or a double bed which convert during day time to
seating.
The
first class chefs ensure that all meals served in the ornate dining
car are of the highest quality and are complemented by fine South
African wines. The accent is on fresh local ingredients, and
traditional dishes such as game are a speciality. Lunch and dinner
include a starter and a choice of fish, meat or vegetarian dishes
followed by a tempting dessert, and all are accompanied by a
selection of excellent South African wines. Whilst
on board all meals, drinks and wines (excluding champagne) are
included. Dress during the day is casual and a jacket and tie is
recommended for gentlemen at dinner.
For relaxation there is a comfortably appointed Lounge Car with bar
service and at the end of the train an Observation Car with a bar,
lounge area and open verandah. Every effort is made to use steam for
a short part of the journey – normally on departure or arrival in
Pretoria.
