Day 1 Evening flight from Gatwick Airport.
Day 2 Arrive Windhoek in the morning. Collect your self drive car
and drive south through the desert savannah to the edge of the Khomashochland plateau (about 3.5hrs). Overnight at Auob Lodge. (D)
Day 3 Drive via the beautiful Spreetshoogte Pass to the Naukluft
Mountains (about 4hrs) and spend 2 nights at the Desert Homestead. (BD)
Day 4 Full day set aside for touring the area – the sand dunes of
Sossusvlei, Sesriem Canyon and Dead Pan. (BD)
Day 5 Travel west through desert gravel plains, via the stunning
Kuiseb Canyon to Swakopmund (about 6hrs) where 2 nights are spent at the Europahof Hotel or similar. (B)
Day 6 Time is available for a morning visit to Walvis Bay (about 30mins), home to a wide variety of bird species. Optional activities include a scenic flight over the dunes, 4x4 quad biking and a dolphin cruise. (B)
Day 7 Drive north along the Skeleton Coast to Cape Cross to
view the breeding colony of Cape Fur seals (80,000 to 100,000). From here, continue along gravel roads through open plains changing to granite hills to Camp X’Aragu Tented Camp Lodge in Damaraland (about 7.5hrs). (BD)
Day 8 Morning visit to Twyfelfontein rock engravings and bushman
paintings before heading north-west via the “back route” to Etendeka Mountain Camp (about 2hrs). This road goes through open plains, dune fields as well as mountain areas with a good chance of seeing desert adapted elephants. (BD)
Day 9 Day at leisure for local sightseeing by car or walking trail or
just relaxing by the pool. (BD)
Day 10 Continue north to the frontier town of Opuwo (about
3hrs), an Herero word meaning ‘all finished’! Overnight at Ohakane Lodge. (BD)
Day 11 Suggest visiting some of the local villages before driving to
the outskirts of Etosha National Park (about 3hrs). Stay in
Hobatere Lodge. (BD)
Day 12 Enter Etosha National Park (about 6hrs) and spend the next 3 days on safari in the park. Stop at the numerous waterholes for
game viewing and animals to be seen are elephant, lion, cheetah,
zebra, giraffe and a wide range of buck. Accommodation is in bungalows at the Rest Camps of the Namibia Wildlife Resorts. No meals are included but each camp has a restaurant serving meals throughout the day. (BD) Day On safari. Etosha is well known for the vast numbers of plains game such as zebra and springbok as well as home to lion, cheetah, elephant and the endangered black rhino.(BD)
Day 15 Leave the park and head south to Otjiwarongo and the
Waterberg Plateau Park (about 6hrs). Stay at the Waterberg Wilderness Lodge. (BD)
Day 16 Head south to Windhoek (about 1hr) and return your
vehicle to the airport depot, before departing on the
evening flight to London. (B)
Day 17 Arrive Gatwick Airport early morning.


This itinerary can also be undertaken as an escorted tour with monthly departures throughout the year.

Wednesday & Friday with Air Namibia (or daily via Johannesburg with South African Airways or British Airways).
