Beach at Walker Bay
|
This thriving
year-round resort is about 2 hours drive from Cape Town.
Between August and November the town can lay claim to
being the whale watching capital of the world when up to
100 whale cows and their calves come into Walker Bay.
The arrival is announced by the ‘Whale Crier’ using a
horn.
|

The view that everyone wants to see and
capture on their camera – a Humpback whale.
A ‘Whale Crier’ parades the streets of Hermanus, sounding a kelp
horn, to announce where whales they have been sighted.
WHALE WATCHING
The cliffs of Walker Bay offer the best land based
whale viewing in the world. Boat trips also provide the
opportunity to come within metres of the Southern Right
Whales, admire the antics of the 60,000 strong Cape Fur
Seals and view the thousands of cormorants and Jackass
Penguins on Dyer Island.
For the more adventurous White Shark cage diving can
also be arranged.
