Numerous scheduled tours are operated by various companies using motor coaches, minibuses (combi's) or private cars from Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Durban and Johannesburg.

They vary in duration from a couple of days to over three weeks. They are an ideal way of seeing the country if you do not wish to drive or travel alone. Here we show just a small selection of tours. CAPE TOWN - "GARDEN ROUTE" - CAPE TOWN
A 6-day circular tour combining the ‘GardenRoute’ and winelands at a pace that allows one to absorb the delights of the Western Cape.

Day 1
Travel into the winelands and stop in Stellenbosch for wine tasting. Continue via Worcester to Montagu.
Day 2
Travel to Oudtshoorn for a guided tour and lunch at an ostrich farm. Visit the Cango Caves. Overnight in the Oudtshoorn area. (BL)
Day 3
Cross the Outeniqua Pass to George. Board the Outeniqua Choo Tjoe train for a short journey. Then to Knysna and visit Featherbed Nature Reserve. 2 nights in Knysna. (BL)
Day 4
Through Nature’s Valley and Tsitsikamma Forest to Storms River Gorge. Return via Plettenberg Bay. (B)
Day 5
Head west via George and Mossel Bay to Swellendam. After lunch to the coastal resort of Hermanus. (BL)
Day 6
Along the spectacular coast road via Betty’s Bay to Somerset West. In the afternoon continue to Cape Town where the tour ends.


PORT ELIZABETH - "GARDEN ROUTE" - CAPE TOWN
A leisurely 4-day tour along the coast linking the two cities and focusing on the main highlights of the ‘Garden Route’.

Day 1
Drive to Storms River Gorge, tour the Tsitsikamma Forest and continue to Knysna for a stay of 2 nights.
Day 2
Enjoy the shops and atmosphere of Knysna before a lagoon cruise to Featherbed Nature Reserve and walk back through the Milkwood trees. (BL)
Day 3
Travel via the Outeniqua Pass to Oudtshoorn. Guided tour of an Ostrich Show Farm and visit the stunning Cango Caves. Overnight in Oudtshoorn. (BD)
Day 4
Travel on the scenic Route 62 via Calitzdorp, Barrydale, Montagu and through the winelands to Cape Town, arriving late afternoon. (B)

This tour can easily be combined with the Johannesburg to Durban tour shown on the facing page by staying in Durban for 2 nights and then flying to Port Elizabeth, where 1 night is spent.


DURBAN - DRAKENSBERG & BATTLEFIELDS - DURBAN
A short tour combining stunning mountain scenery and the fascinating history of the Zulu and Anglo/Boer wars

Day 1 Drive inland to the Valley of a Thousand Hills and then via Pietermaritzburg to the Howick Falls. Continue into the foothills of the Drakensberg Mountains and stay at Hartford House for 2 nights.
Day 2 Day free to enjoy activities such as hiking or fishing. Or spend time exploring the surrounding mountain scenery. (B)
Day 3 Drive to the historic towns of Ladysmith and Dundee for sightseeing. Then to the battlefields of Blood River, Rorke’s Drift and Isandlwana. Overnight at Isandlwana Lodge. (BD)
Day 4 An early start for the drive across country to Umfolozi Game Reserve for a morning of game viewing. In the afternoon travel south to Eshowe and stay at Protea Hotel Shakaland. Experience the Zulu lifestyle and after dinner sit around the fire as legends and stories unfold to the rhythmic drumbeat of Africa. (BD)
Day 5 After a hearty Zulu breakfast and more culture, depart mid-morning along the coast to Durban, arriving in the afternoon. (B)


JOHANNESBURG - PANORAMA ROUTE - KRUGER NATIONAL PARK - JOHANNESBURG
This tour combines a safari to one of finest game reserves in South Africa with the spectacular scenery of the Blyde River Canyon area.

Day 1
Travel across the open Highveld countryside of Mpumalanga to Nelspruit and in the afternoon enter the Kruger National Park. Overnight in the National Park Rest Camp at Skukuza. (D)
Day 2
The day is devoted to game viewing in the Kruger National Park. There will be the opportunity of an optional night drive in an open safari vehicle. Overnight in the National Park Rest Camp at Satara. (BD)
Day 3
After a final game viewing drive and breakfast, leave the Park and drive on the ‘Panorama Route’ to visit Blyde River Canyon, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, God’s Window and Pinnacle. Overnight near Sable at Lone Creek Lodge . (BD)
Day 4
Visit Lone Creek Falls before driving to the historic and fascinating gold mining village of Pilgrims Rest. Through the vastness of the countryside to Johannesburg, arriving late afternoon. (B)

Note: The accommodation in Kruger National Park may at busy times be substituted with an hotel just outside of the Park and open safari vehicle drives will be offered as optional


WILDERNESS CAMPING SAFARI IN THE KRUGER NATIONAL PARK
This unique ‘out of Africa’ wilderness camping safari will give you a wonderful opportunity of game viewing in remote parts of the National Park.

Day 1 Meet your ranger at Hazyview and travel by open safari vehicle into the Park. The afternoon is spent game viewing and birding using seldom driven back roads en route to your overnight camp. After dark further game viewing by spotlight.
Day 2 Early morning game drive with brunch at a picnic site. Rest up at your campsite during the heat of the day before a further game drive. Dinner around the camp fire followed by a night time drive.
Day 3 Traditionally, early morning and late afternoon is the best game viewing time and in the company of expert guides you will go out on safari in search of the ‘Big 5’.
Day 4 After breakfast drive back to Hazyview via Skukuza and Paul Kruger Gate where the safari terminates late morning.

Note: Accommodation for a maximum of 8 guests is provided in twin bedded walk-in tents with soft mattresses and crisp duvets, with a washstand. Each camp site has portable showers and loos. A support team consisting of a chef and 3 assistants travel in a second vehicle. Includes all meals, mineral water and one bottle of wine per couple, per night. Tour operates subject to a minimum of 2 passengers


JOHANNESBURG - KRUGER NATIONAL PARK - SWAZILAND - DURBAN
A very varied 6-day tour combing spectacular scenery, ethnic diversity and two world famous game reserves.

Day 1
Drive along the scenic ‘Panorama Route’ visiting Blyde River Canyon & Pilgrim’s Rest. Overnight in the Hazyview area. (D) 
Day 2
Early morning game drive through the Kruger National Park. Afternoon at leisure. Optional game viewing drive. (B)
Day 3
Morning game viewing drive by open safari vehicle. Afternoon at leisure. Optional game viewing drive. (B)
Day 4
Enter the Kingdom of Swaziland and drive through the Ezulwini Valley. Visit a glass factory and a craft market. Overnight in the Mbabane area. (B)
Day 5
Re-enter South Africa and visit a traditional Zulu village for lunch and then travel to Hluhluwe (BL). Itala Game Reserve may be used on certain departures
Day 6
Early morning game viewing. Arrive Durban late afternoon (B)

This tour also operates in reverse direction from Durban to Johannesburg departing Tuesday.


Sabi Sabi Option: On Day 2 I
t is possible to stay overnight at Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve adjoining Kruger Park. All meals are included and game viewing is by open safari vehicle.
