Originally called uKhalambra or the ‘Barrier of Spears’
the range and the surrounding area is woven into the
very fabric of South African history. The famous
‘Amphitheatre’ in the Royal Natal National Park was the
setting for the film ‘Zulu’ and exudes an unmistakable
presence and power.
 Walking and climbing are well
catered for but do take local advice on the conditions
and terrain as during the summer there can be sudden
heavy thunderstorms. The drive up the Sani Pass into the
beautiful mountain Kingdom of Lesotho is highly
recommended. The track is very rough, rocky and steep
and a 4x4 vehicle is required |

Throughout the region are well marked walking
trails, varying from gentle strolls
to strenuous climbs

Ancient rock art is to be found and special
guided
tours can be arranged

Fishing, walking, riding, mountain biking and
various other activities can be undertaken amidst
this spectacular scenery

Birdlife is abundant including the Lammergeyer
(Bearded Vulture) soaring around the cliffs with its
two metre wingspan.
