Car Hire
In order to ensure trouble-free motoring and high standards of
service, we have partnered with a number of international vehicle
rental companies.
Avis, Budget and Europcar have an extensive network of offices, and
a modern, reliable fleet of vehicles. Rentals with Europcar include
the following:
- unlimited mileage
- collision damage waiver (CDW)
- theft loss waiver (TLW)
- tax, tourism levy and any airport surcharges
- personal accident insurance (PAI)
- 24-hour toll-free help line
Care must be taken when driving – in the event of any negligence,
driving under the influence of alcohol or any illegal substance,
where the road surface or conditions are not suitable for the
vehicle or not adhering to traffic regulations, insurance cover will
be negated.
Minimum rental age is 21. For drivers under the age of 23 there is a
surcharge of R120 per day provided they have been in possession of a
licence for at least 2 years.
A number of optional services are available, fees for which must be
paid locally.
- Delivery to your hotel (within a radius of 25km of a depot)
– R150 within office hours and R280 after office hours, weekends
& public holidays.
- Additional drivers R130 per person, per rental
- Mobile 'phone rental is available free of charge through
Vodashop Renta Fone. The cost of the calls and Insurance will be
billed to the renter
- One way rentals are possible within South Africa and each
sector is treated as a separate hire. A Drop Off charge is
levied for rentals terminating in excess of 150 kms from the
original rental branch as follows - 151 to 499 kms – R400 …. in
excess of 500 kms – R600
- A letter of authority must be obtained from the car hire
company if taking the car into or through Swaziland, Botswana,
Namibia or Lesotho. Under no circumstances may vehicles be taken
into Angola, Zambia or Zimbabwe.
Driving tips for South Africa
- Carry your driving licence at all times (if your UK driving
licence does not contain your photograph, please obtain an
International Driving Permit from the AA or RAC).
- Drive on the left. Road signs are similar to the UK. Traffic
lights are referred to as ‘robots’, and roundabouts as ‘circles’
- Speed limits: Town – 60km/h, Rural – 100km/h, Highways –
120km/h Special speed limits apply in the National Parks
- Credit cards are not accepted at petrol stations
- On gravel roads / unsurfaced roads, a speed limit of 50 mph
should not be exceeded
The minimum rental period is one day. Daily rates are
calculated in 24-hour cycles from time of pick-up. You will be
charged directly for any additional days, at a local extension rate,
should the vehicle be returned late. Europcar also offers “Classic
Max” and “Classic Platinum” which include a range of additional
services and supplements such as a tank of fuel, additional driver &
young driver surcharges. In addition, they have a basic “Classic”
tariff where you have excesses and higher deposits. |
