The country is blessed with some of Africa’s most beautiful
subtropical wilderness reserves. It is very much a land of contrasts
– from the vast open spaces of the Kalahari Desert to the
crystal-clear waters of the Okavango Delta – the world’s largest
inland delta. San rock paintings can be seen in the Tsodilo Hills
which have recently been proclaimed a World Heritage Site. With the
Government’s policy of high quality/low volume tourism you are
assured of a truly special safari experience what ever time of year
you visit.
Most of the game reserves are in the northern part of the country
with the exception of Makgadikgadi National Park, a remote 10000
square km reserve with endless vistas of rolling grasslands, desert
palms and salt pans; the massive Central Kalahari Game Reserve in
the middle of the country; the newly formed Gemsbok/Kgalagadi Trans
frontier Park on the borders of Botswana and South Africa; and Tuli
Block in the south east of the country.
OKAVANGO DELTA & MOREMI GAME RESERVE
The Okavango River rises in Angola and by July the delta is a mass
of channels, lagoons and islands. The water then starts to slowly
recede as it soaks into the land and evaporates with the fierce
heat. The animal and birdlife is varied and prolific and in the
Delta you will experience peace and tranquillity as you are poled
through the waterways in a makoro. Elsewhere game viewing is by open
safari vehicle and on foot.
CHOBE NATIONAL PARK & SAVUTE
The park lies about 60 miles to the west of Victoria Falls and has
abundant wildlife year-round. On the northern boundary is the Chobe
River and this is a magnet for large herds of elephant and other
game. In the south is the Savuti Channel, a dried up marsh that is
now grassland where great herds of wildebeest, buffalo and zebra
congregate together with following predators.
LINYANTI GAME RESERVE
This is a vast private reserve on Chobe’s western border and has
three main features; the Savute Channel continuing its dry course
from Chobe towards the Linyanti River, the woodlands of the interior
and the river itself. Excellent wildlife can be seen throughout the
year including the rare Sitatunga antelope. With its varied
vegetation it is a great place for birding.
MASHATU GAME RESERVE
The reserve is in the Tuli Block on the banks of the Limpopo River
bordering with South Africa. In addition to good general game and a
myriad of birds, the area is noted for its large elephant
population. An interesting diversion is the fascinating Soloman’s
Wall, a sheer basalt cliff which once formed a natural dam across
the Motlouste River, and ancient rock dwellings
