Viewed from any angle
Victoria Falls is truly an amazing sight. The Zambezi
River drops into a chasm which is over 1km wide and
plunges to a depth of over 100m. Its traditional name is
Mosi oa Tunya – ‘the smoke that thunders’ – very apt as
the rising spray from this great natural wonder can be
see from up to 25km away.
Livingstone, 5km from the
Falls, has become a major tourist resort with an
international airport served daily from
Johannesburg.
Several resort hotels are close to the
Victoria Falls whilst upstream a number of small quality
lodges offer a very high standard of comfort with a
range of activities and
sightseeing included within the tariff. There are many
adventure activities available including white water
rafting, canoe trips, sundowner cruises, elephant back
safaris and trips over the Victoria Falls by microlight,
helicopter or light aircraft.
A 220 metre cable car
travels to the foot of the Batoka Gorge, where thrilling
jet boat rides can be taken on the river below the
Falls.
Safaris into neighbouring Botswana are popular
combination.
