WILDLIFE AND BEACH

Day 1 Arrive in Antananarivo.
Met and drive eastwards to Andasibe through the typical landscape of
the highland and the eastern
rainforest. Arrive at Vakona Lodge late morning and in the afternoon
visit their private reserve including its small island sanctuary for
lemurs. Stay at Vakona Lodge for 2 nights. (D)
Day 2 Full day walk within the
Analamazaotra Reserve for spotting the indri indri, which is the
largest living lemur. Other lemur species might be spotted during
the walk including the grey bamboo lemur, the common brown lemur as
well as different endemic bird. Nocturnal visit for spotting species
such as the mouse lemurs, chameleons and frogs. (BD)
Day 3 Drive eastward to
Manambato, through the eastern rainforest with a landscape dominated
by the Traveller Palm or “Ravinala”. Transfer by boat into the
Pagalanes complex of inland waterways and overnight at the Palmarium
Hotel or similar. (BD)
Day 4 Possibility of an early
morning visit to a nearby reserve. After breakfast travel by
speedboat through the fascinating Pangalanes channels to Tamatave,
the second largest city on Madagascar. Depart in the afternoon on
the short flight to the tropical island of Isle St. Marie. Stay at
Princess Bora Lodge for 3 nights. (BD)
Day 5 Full day excursion to the
“Iles aux Nattes” a small off shore island where you can relax under
the palms, walk to the lighthouse and swim in the protected channel.
Day 6 Day free at leisure.
Activities available include cycling or whale watching (from mid
July to Mid September.) (BD)
Day 7 Return flight to
Antananarivo. Connect with your onward flight or other travel
arrangements. (B)

VAKONA LODGE
Set in the midst of the forest close to the reserve, this
attractive lodge comprises of 24 comfortable en suite bungalows set
on the hillside overlooking the main complex. For relaxation there
is a restaurant, bar, lounge and swimming pool.
LE PALMARIUM
Set on the inland lagoon shoreline, there are 8
bamboo-walled en suite bungalows with palm
thatched roofs. There is a sandy beach for
swimming and sun bathing and the lodge can only
be reached by boat. The comfort is somewhat
superficial but the magic of the spot is worth a stay.
PRINCESS BORA LODGE
Ideally set right on the shoreline , this picture postcard resort
hotel has beautiful gardens running down to the narrow palm-fringed
beach. There are 15 comfortable bungalows and 5 beach villas,
restaurant, bar and swimming pool.
