South to the Tropic of Capricorn

 

 

:: MADAGASCAR
This 7-day tour gives you a tremendous variety of scenery in the central and southern part of the island together with various lifestyles. A highlight is the visit to Isalo National Park with its rock formations, wildlife and flora. An English speaking guide is included and the hotels used are the best available.

 South to the Tropic of Capricorn

Day 1 On arrival in Antananarivo, met and transferred to the Royal Palissandre Hotel for overnight. A sightseeing tour of the city is included with visits to the upper and lower town and a visit to the Queen’s palace of Ambohimanga.
Day 2 After breakfast depart by road and drive through the mountains, hills and rice fields.  En route you will see many burial tombs; some simple, some elaborate which play an important role in the local lifestyle and their fascination for after life. Arrive Antsirabe mid-afternoon and after a short city sightseeing tour check-in at the Arotel hotel or similar. (BD)
Day 3 Drive to Ambositra and en route visit some of the typical villages. After a short break in Ambositra continue to Fianarantsoa through the forests of eucalyptus and pine trees. Opportunity to watch and photograph birds. Overnight at Tsara Guest House or similar. (BD)
Day 4 Morning departure for the very long day’s drive south. In Ambalavao there is an interesting factory making hand-made paper which is well worth visiting. A visit to a local vineyard will also be made. In the afternoon the second part of the journey is over Ihosy to the wide Horombe grassland plains and on towards Ranohira. The scenery begins to change as you enter the attractive countryside of the Betsileo people where granite outcrops dominate the skyline. Stay at Le Relais de la Reine or similar for 2 nights. (BD)
Day 5 Early start for the drive through to nearby Isalo National Park. Walk up (90 min) to the natural swimming pool and through the Tapia Forest . For the nature lover, you have the opportunity to learn about the endemic plants of Isalo; the aloes, the pachypodium
or bottle plants. (BD)
Day 6 After breakfast drive to Tuléar through the savannah and the spiny bush. Stop on the way to take some photos of the baobab trees. Short city tour in Tuléar before continuing to the fishing village of Ifaty.  Overnight at Le Paradisier or similar. (BD)
Day 7 Transfer to the airport and flight back to Antananarivo. Connect with your onward flight or other touring arrangements. (B)

RELAIS DE LA REINE
Set in a beautiful location, the hotel has 27 en suite bedrooms which are located in six units. The large central building houses the restaurant, bar and lounge. In the gardens is a splendid swimming pool. No telephone connection.


AROTEL
Situated in the residential area but close to the town centre, the 3 star hotel has 45 air conditioned bedrooms with TV & telephone.
Facilities include a restaurant serving good cuisine, bar, swimming pool and lawn tennis court.


LE PARADISIER
The hotel is about 20km from Toliara and the 20 bungalows are set in the tranquil gardens. From each en suite bungalow there are views over the lagoon. There is a large restaurant, bar and swimming pool.
 


TSARA GUEST HOUSE
There is a wonderful view of the lower side of the administrative district town of Fianarantsoa from this guest house located in the higher town. It has a good restaurant, bar and 17 bedrooms of which 8 are ensuite.
